The PIWD Board of Directors annually reviews its operations budget and, as necessary, makes modest adjustment to customer rates in order to meet the needs of the district for general operations, system maintenance, or necessary upgrades.

The Prudence Island Water District’s Board of Directors generally has regular meetings on the third Saturday of the month, excepting August and December. Meetings are at 1pm at Hope Brown Center, and are open to the public, in accordance with Rhode Island Open Meetings law. The Prudence Island Water District was chartered by state law with the purpose of providing adequate water supply to the residents of the district. The PIWD is a public body overseen by an all-volunteer has a board of directors.

Current Board Members


PIWD board members are elected by the district’s customers and taxpayers. Elections are held in June of odd-numbered years. To appear on the ballot, candidates must fill out the nomination form. To vote in the election, electors should ensure that their names are on the canvas list.

The PIWD Board created and adopted by-laws in 2009 to direct district operations and to standardize responses to system and customer needs. Periodically, modest by-law additions or clarifications to the language are required.  A copy of the most recent by-laws may be accessed through the link provided below.

In accordance with RI Department of Health regulations, the district annually generates a consumer confidence report and distributes it to the community water system customers. Unfortunately, the PIWD is currently under a Boil Water Advisory, which is likely to last until the ongoing disinfection and filtration project is complete.
