PIWD Treatment Project Update: Approved & Funded

After years of effort, we are excited to share a major milestone for our water system: funding for the long-awaited treatment and iron removal system has been secured!

In mid-February, after years of engineering and environmental review, we received final approval from the State, and on February 25, we got the news we had been hoping for—funding for the $3.8m project will come with 100% principal forgiveness from the Rhode Island Infrastructure Bank. This means that our community will benefit from cleaner, safer water with minimal financial burden on ratepayers.

This has been a long and challenging process. We appreciate everyone’s patience, and we are relieved and excited to see this becoming reality.

A construction contract with Biszko Building Systems Inc. is already in hand, and now that funds are secure, we will soon issue a notice to proceed. The contractor will then have 400 days to install the system without incurring penalties, so we hope the system will be online in 2026. We will continue to keep you updated as the project progresses.
